Who?Mag DVD Vol. 1
Who?Mag Magazine bills itself as the bridge between the industry and up and coming artists and with this first forray into the DVD magazine genre it succeeds when it focuses specifically on that. The DVD is a collection of videos over the last several years split into the DVD side and the magazine side. The magazine side is simply text of various interviews while the DVD side contains the primary artist showcases and interview segments.
The showcases are generally where the DVD shines brightest as we’re introduced to a number of new artists through performances and short interviews. Certain execs are also featured discussing what they are looking for in an artist. There are also segments on independent movies and a few behind the scenes looks at different festivals and industry parties. Outside of the showcases, the strongest pieces were interviews with radio hosts Monie Love & Poochman at a Philly station where they talked about how artists can get their material played on the air and what it takes to be a radio personality. Interviews like these, the showcases and the extras (which include new artist videos and independent movie trailers) are where Who?Mag succeeds and where it should concentrate as the information and exposure is key to helping artists get noticed and educated on the industry.
There’s a bit of fluff as I could have done without the useless penthouse pet interview, the ridiculous number of drops (shout outs to Who?Mag), and the tag along radio interviews with Omarion and Rasheed Wallace which really added nothing to the content. However, with that said Who?Mag is still on the right track delivering a needed service to artists on the rise.
