Overview: Wild Cowboy up! One of the most recognizable voices in hip hop is back. Black October is Sadat’s 4th solo effort and most recent since the dope Experience & Education. This new release features an all-star production lineup including Da Beatminerz, Diamond D, DJ Spinna, Ayatollah, J-Zone, Greg Nice and more. Vocal collaborations include Money Boss Players (“If You”), Lord Jamar and Grand Puba (“Chosen Few”), and Greg Nice (“My Mind”). This album is very hit or miss for me. There are definite head-nodders like the grimy opener “Black October,” the bouncy “The Post,” and the creatively sampled “Million Dolla Deal.” On the flip side, there are some real head-scratchers such the crunk-influenced “Who You Rollin’ Wit,” and the funk filled “Throw The Ball.” The most bizarre moments on the album: the 5-minute rambling tirade “Momentary Outro,” where Sadat discusses his gun possession charges, immediately following the “Good Times” theme song (huh?!?) and the Greg Nice sexed-up collabo, “My Mind,” which annoyingly samples R. Kelly and sounds like it was recorded in somebody’s cousin’s basement about 10 years ago. If you toss out the interlude and wack outro, you have 12 tracks left with about half of them being above average. So basically, enjoy the half hour of listening pleasure, and chances are, you’ll forget about this album pretty quickly.

Dopeness Percentage - Takes into account how many dope songs there are compared to tracks on the album. For example, if an album had 14 tracks and 5 of them were dope, you have a Dopeness of 36%.
