RADIx - The Staple

Label: Abstrak Recordings/Early Spotter Recordings
Grade: B
Highlight: Air
Overview: This is the first official full-length album from the Boston based duo RADIx (pronounced Rated X- yeah, I don’t get it either). Emcees Quite Nyce and Seek have been getting a nice buzz on the New England mix tape circuit and they shared the stage with a bunch of indie punk rockers on the Vans Warped Tour. The Staple features a nice line up of guest appearances including Mr. Eon (High & Mighty) on the dope “Rush.” Akrobatik and Mr. Sinista (The X-Ecutioners) lend their skills to the “AkroRADIX,” another hot track. Insight both produces and rhymes on the headnodder “From Ground Up.” Most of the album has an up-tempo, party vibe slightly reminiscent of The Arsonists. The highlight track for me is the Dr. Sixshot produced “Air,” which features creative sampling of both Q-Tip and Nas. There are a few throwaway tracks mixed in (see “Dotted Line,” “Hip Hop” and “Pain”), but all in all, this is a solid debut worthy of being RADIb (pronounced Rated B.)
