Project Move - Love Gone Wrong/The Butterfly Theory

Label: Sun Moon Records
Grade: B+
Highlight: That’s How It Was/Love Music
Overview: Where’s Boston at? Project Move is the latest crew to put Beantown on the map. Anonymous, Ra and Moe Pope (from the Electric Company collective) come together to make a nice, “breath of fresh air” album. This album would be classified as conscious hip-hop, but not in that preachy sense that becomes tiresome. This is basically a chill, jazz-influenced record that reminds me of that old Digable Planets and ATCQ vibe, complete with the sub-minute interludes. The album is excellently produced by the likes of Headnodic, Zazar, Cinematic, KBC, Soul Supreme and Beyonder. The beauty of having a half dozen producers is that the sound is diverse throughout the album. The lyrics are thought-provoking at times and straight up braggadocio at others, but it keeps you tuned in and interested in what they have to say. Highlights include “Woo,” “AM To PM,” and the bonus tracks, “Planet Earth (Remix)” and “Six Million Ways.” This is a petty criticism, but damn, they shout out the Project Move name one to many times in the album. You’re guaranteed to not forget who you’re listening to. Overall, this is a hot album that will be slept on by many. Just make sure you download The Butterfly Theory, and not that bizarre Ashton Kutcher movie!
