A first generation Colombian-American, the progressive dj/production style of Maleet (a.k.a. Malito) is reflective of his exposure to salsa, funk, rock, and soul as a youth in North Jersey. This rising star began his career after befriending veteran mixtape jock and Artifacts’ DJ, Kaos, along with a purchase of a set of Technic 1210s and an MPC2000. Employing Kaos as a mentor, Maleet developed his deejaying and beatmaking skills by learning about classic breaks, sampling, and the fine art of crate digging. Kaos later introduced the budding beatmaker to groupmate El Da Sensei, affording Maleet several production credits to the emcee’s acclaimed debut solo album, Relax, Relate, & Release (2002).
Collaborations with several other underground artists under belt, Maleet continues to stay busy working as a party DJ and as half the team behind the expository mixtape series, The Art of Diggin, also produced in cahoots with DJ Kaos and P.Original. Maleet’s beats are suitable for most emcees preferring a cool eclectic sound, and for the avid heads’ listening pleasure. Whether daytime cruisin or nighttime lounging, head noddin’ beats and hip gyrating grooves are to be expected from this talent. Clever voice sampling of R&B/Soul classics and well placed layers of jazzy funk, soul, and disco abound, Maleet’s sound cannot be ignored by any lover of Hip Hop and related genres.
