Jay-Z - Kingdom Come

Label: Roc-A-Fella
Grade: C-
Dopeness Percentage: 21%
Also Download: Kingdom Come and Do U Wanna Ride
Highlight: 30 Something
Overview: As highly anticipated as Hova’s album was, it’s a huge disappointment. What more can I say? The many cameos are unspectacular, the beats are boring, and the lyrics are okay at best. There’s no fire on this album. Maybe Jay has become too comfortable in his executive chair. When I heard this album would feature production from Dre, Kanye and Just Blaze with cameos from Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Usher and Ne-Yo, I expected a much more satisfying product. The current single, “Show Me What You Got” is boring and corny, with its lame “purty lady” chorus. When the Rumpshaker horn sounds, I would much rather be listening to Wreckz ‘N’ Effect. The three hot songs on the album are the Just-Blaze produced, “Kingdom Come,” which features a clever Rick James sample, Dre’s “30 Something,” which is an ode to Jigga being all grown up, and Kanye’s “Do U Wanna Ride,” which features an infectious John Legend hook. All in all, this album seems forced, rushed, etc. Where’s my copy of Reasonable Doubt?
Dopeness Percentage - Takes into account how many dope songs there are compared to tracks on the album. For example, if an album had 14 tracks and 5 of them were dope, you have a Dopeness of 36%.

What kind of 2 minute review is this. This sounds like someone who just isn’t a Jay-Z fan period. This is a new time and era in music and nothing is the same as it was even two years ago. This album is not the best Jay-Z album I’ve ever heard especially with the line up of producers he has, but it’s not the worse album that’s out right now. As far as I’m concerrned NOBODY is putting out anything that is classic material. Matter of fact it’s hard to choose a classic album out of the shit that’s out now, but somebody has to have the best album out. I’ll go with Busta for having that. But this album is better than a C-. Come on now. I’ll go as far as giving it a B and that’s pretty good for today’s standards. Hopefully Nas can do better giving that he’s not running ten other businesses like Jay. But after reading the line up Nas has and hearing a track that has a sample he already rocked over, I’m fearing he may not be able to save hip hop either.

SICKWIDIT,
I beleive this is a solid CD (besides a couple of songs). And how about expanding the Hip-Hop knowledge a little further. Let’s call it a PE sample instead of Wrecks N Effect!

I am a self titled #1 fan of the Jiggaman. And being that, I am probably more biased than anyone when it comes to the review of both his music and person. Taking all of that into account, it hurts me to say that his latest album, Kingdom Come, is less than satisfactory. I grade it a sold “C”. In fact, compared to his previous works, the tracks and lyrics are disappointingly boring and predictable to say the least. As a huge fan, I was expecting something spectacular and amazing, fresh and new, only in th Hov fashion we know and love. Honestly, I feel like most of these tracks where a oversupply of tracks that didn’t make it on the Black Album…it puts me that state of mine do to the overall tone, feeling and direction of the album. I appreciate “Do You Wanna Ride”, only because John Legend murders the hook, his voice is Heavenly and takes you there. Also, Hov is then forced to step it up during th climax of the song, which allows me to finally breathe and shout “now that’s signature Iceberg”! Lyrially and introspectively, “Kingdom Come”, “Dig a Hole”, and “Beach Chair” make my top 3. Beyonce could have kept the music to “Hollywood” for herself, because it is a great “song”…I guess it’s ok for Hip Hop, changes it up a little and really speaks to his position now (I mean, if it just had to be on the album). Overall, this album is almost as disappointing as The Gift and The Curse, only more so because there were so many high expectations, promoted to “revive hip hop”…atleast Gift/Curse had great music and even better features!!
