Get Jay-Z for Me (Before Christmas)
“Witness the life of Mike Swift, Filipino Brooklyn MC, as he travels back to his country to pursue a career in Rap.” That’s the tagline of the video but it could also be easily called the Mike Swift promo DVD. While there is a guise of a storyline of Mike trying to get this DVD to Jay-Z’s office before Christmas it mostly focuses on his triumphs and status in his homeland of the Philippines and how he is planning to use that support and momentum to deliver a legendary product to the desk of one Sean Carter. The narration is handled by fellow emcee J-Hon aka J-Heez who generally gives you the rundown of Mike Swift’s successes as he prepares to be the one to get the video to Jay. While interesting at times his narration gets kind of annoying when he constantly spits his catchphrase ‘U heee meee!”
Get ‘Jay-Z for Me’ gives you a glimpse of the Filipino hip hop scene and is an interesting approach to garner major label attention. It also comes with a bonus mix CD from J-Hon, Mike Swift, Yesh and the rest of the Headbop crew. Only time will tell if Mike will get the deal he needs to springboard the numerous ideas he has in store. Best of luck to him.
