Disciples of the 36 Chambers
I had to have this one. I’ve never gotten to see the clan perform and with ODB passing this DVD was as close as I am unfortunately going to get. “Disciples of the 36 Chambers” was videotaped in San Bernardino, California and stands as the last performance onstage with all nine original clan members. With Dirt Mcgirt in the house the show just went to a new level. It was completely unplanned as RZA mentioned in the commentary that they didn’t all even see each other until they got onstage. Dirty almost didn’t make refusing to leave the hotel room but once he finally obliged it was on. The clan runs through bits of damn near all of their classics, except ironically “Protect Your Neck,” and select solo cuts from each member. Cappadonna makes an appearance and so does Redman in a short duet with Meth in which they both end up in the crowd. There are many different things to keep your attention in this performance but watching ODB rock is probably one which most will be drawn to first. He still had it mos def and looked to be in pretty good shape since we last saw him on VH-1. At times Dirty would just sit there looking like he was in a trance until he’d randomly burst into something like “You didn’t think Osirus was coming bitches!!” If that’s not classic I don’t know what is. The only disappointing thing is that since it was unrehearsed the show comes off as pretty spotty with clan members just standing around until a beat would drop and they’d know what song to perform but once it started you almost felt like you were there. RIP ODB.
