Apathy - Eastern Philosophy

Label: Babygrande
Grade: B+
Highlight: 1,000 Grams
Overview: So Connecticut is not just about college basketball and Mohegan Sun after all? Apathy’s latest release, “Eastern Philosophy,” showcases the talents of the Demigodz emcee. Filled with creative samples of artists such as Buckshot, KRS-One, Biggie, Lauryn Hill, and Onyx, this album takes you back to that 1990’s east coast hip hop sound that we miss so much. Apathy best resurrects the boom-bap on the title track, along with “1,000 Grams,” the Celph Titled produced, “All About Crime,” and “The Buck Stops Here,” with cuts by Evil Dee. The album features a good seven producers, but Chum The Skrilla Guerilla takes to the boards on half of the tracks and creates a great template for Apathy to flex his lyrical swagger on. Although Apathy came up with the title for this album six years ago, his philosophy is more than a welcome addition to the ’06 lineup.
