AG - Get Dirty Radio

Label: Look Records

Grade: C

Dopeness Percentage: 25%

Highlight: If I Wanna

Also Download: Frozen, Love, Hip Hop Quotable

Overview: You know the man’s resume, or at least you should. He’s been a giant in the hip hop game for a long time now, as part of the D.I.T.C. crew and the incomparable Showbiz and AG. I really wanted this solo joint to be ridiculous, but sadly, it’s not. The album starts off strong with the Madlib produced, “Frozen” and Jake One’s dope “If I Wanna.” Then things just seem to go awry. The majority of the album is just very average with same ‘ol same ‘ol lyrical content and sub-par beats. The best that this album has to offer is the collaborations with Madlib and Oh No (“Love”). “Hip Hop Quotable” is an interesting song, as AG strings together classic lines from other people’s joints. However, what stands out are horrific tracks like “Say What,” which sound like AG is trying to dig into the crunk, more than the crates. “Who Dat” is an attempt to recreate the magic of “Next Level,” but it just doesn’t do justice as he talks about spankin’ girls over a misplaced Big L hook. So if you can live with a few dope singles, then give this album some spins. Otherwise, jump back to ’92 and get your Soul Clap on.

Dopeness Percentage - Takes into account how many dope songs there are compared to tracks on the album. For example, if an album had 14 tracks and 5 of them were dope, you have a Dopeness of 36%.
